Reader' Reviews

Harrison's review / / 2010-01-21
This is by far the most comprehensive and easy to read book I have seen in medicine. Something I wish I had purchased when in medical school instead of buying all these other smaller books which do not give you enough and as good of information. Highly recommended for medical graduates. However, I would not recommend this book for RNs or even PAs, because it gives you detailed information that you would most probably won't need.

Fauci and Straus are junk 'scientists' / / 2009-11-29
Fauci is a very poor scientist. He lets his own political beliefs bias his medical opinions. As he has been in high positions in NIH this serves to greatly retard medical science and cause much suffering to disabled Americans. An example is his steadfast support of Stephen Straus in his disinformation campaign on ME (aka CFS). Fauci still includes the deceased Straus' inaccurate article as the section on ME in this edition.
Internist Paul Cheney, MD, PhD, the world's foremost clinican and top researcher on ME said of Straus' findings in his most (self-)publicized study, "it's an absolute lie." Internist Dan Peterson, also one of the world's foremost clinicians and researchers on ME said "Stephen Straus is a snake." Straus was still doing grand rounds in the mid- late 90's saying possible retroviral association with ME made no sense because retroviruses cause neurological, cognitive, immunological and endocrine pathology, which aren't prominent features of ME. These are in fact the central, disabling features of the disease. And of course quite a few bench scientists have found retroviral involvement since 1986, most recently Dan Peterson finding 95-98% of studied ME patients with antibodies to XMRV.

Do NOT buy this book from Superbookdeals!
They misrepresented the product that they're selling-- I thought I was ording the ENTIRE Harrison's but only Volume II arrived.

After spending much time on the phone with their representative, they came to the conclusion that it was MY FAULT for not reading their disclaimer at the bottom of the page in small print stating that this is a two-book set. I still have yet to see this disclaimer.

Superbookdeals needs to re-list this book under a DIFFERENT image and a DIFFERENT title!
I will never buy from these folks again!
It would be best to purchase your Harrison's at a medical bookstore.
I'm a medical student and do not have a lot of time to go to the post office to return (what is know 2 copies of Volume II!). ARGH!!!!

Simply the Best / / 2008-03-07
Harrison's is a staple for most physicians, even for many med students. At over 2,600 pages, this monster of a book covers virtually every area of clinical medicine. This book is an ideal reference for students, physicians, and even non-scientists who desire a comprehensive medical library. It's history and reliability for many physicians isn't by accident.

Bible for medical students / / 2008-02-14
No matter what your professors/classmates/nay-sayers say about how thick and heavy, convoluted or expensive this book is, it doesn't matter because YOU NEED THIS BOOK if you are a medical student, period. In fact, you'll save money in the long run b/c this book will pre-empt your need for many other books (not all, so be careful).
